Having optimized images gives your user the right image for their device, rendered faster, and thereby improving your SEO. Optimizing web images is a process of delivering high-quality images in the right format, dimension, size, and resolution while keeping the smallest possible size.
If the page takes more than 3 seconds to load almost 40% of visitors tend to leave that site, thus increasing the bounce rate. Image optimization is the only solution for this problem.
To understand how sizes and image quality are connected, please watch this training video.
According to Wix, if you're uploading an image to Wix and you used the image as an element in your webpage, then it is automatically converted to WebP format which is better optimized for site performance. You may watch this video to understand how this works.
Guidelines when uploading an image in Wix:
Wix automatically optimizes your images for best online quality and fast download. This means that, unless your file is over 25MB, you do not need to resize or compress it before uploading.
Choose the correct media format. JPEGs are better optimized for web, so unless you need transparency in your image, we recommend choosing JPEG over PNG. This is because JPEG images are smaller in download size, while also being of a similar quality. SVG graphics, also known as vector art, differs from more widespread raster image formats in that they use mathematical equations instead of a pixel grid for drawing graphics. This makes them lighter, which ensures they load at a higher speed than other image formats. It also means that resizing the image will not affect its quality or sharpness. We recommend using vector art for decorative shapes or business logos, instead of PNG. While GIFs used to be a very popular format for showcasing animated content, modern video encoding formats have both better quality and smaller size, therefore video files are preferred to GIF animations. You can place videos inside VideoBoxes widget. These elements even support transparent videos.
You should upload the best possible quality images that you can and we will optimize them to the exact dimensions displayed on the screen, without any loss of quality. For best results, upload images of at least 2560 X 1440 pixels in resolution.
